PTAC Conference Track Meet
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET - Thursday, May 9th, 2019
Thursday, May 9th marked the end of the regular season for the Salem Sabers track and field team as they competed at the High Point Athletic Complex in the PTAC Conference Championship. Competing against Caldwell Academy, Calvary Day School, Forsyth Country Day, Greensboro Day, Westchester Country Day and High Point Christian Academy where seven places scored in each event, the Sabers came home with a 3rd place finish overall to end their regular season.
As usual, the Saber’s throw squad set the tone early on in the meet starting with shot put. Taking first place was Miracle Etim-Andy (34-09.00), following close behind in third place was Tochi Okoli (31-10), fourth place was Brier Evans with a new personal record (PR) and a state qualifying toss of 28-04, and fifth place points went to Jyana Seaman also setting herself a new PR of 26-02.
Continuing to set the Sabers up with a solid base of points to start the meet off, the girls earned second (Miracle Etim-Andy, 94-0.5), third (Tochi Okoli, 90-04), fourth (Jade Alston, 73-02) and sixth (Jyana Seaman 59-06) place finishes at the discus. The highlight was Jade’s toss setting a new PR to end her season!
Over at long jump, Brier Evans was grabbing points where she could with a 6th place finish (13-03.25) for the Sabers.
Heading to the track, the Lady Sabers continued to rack up points with some solid finishes. Tiarra Georges grabbed 7th place in the 100 Hurdles with a new PR (20.71) and also had a season best in the 300m Hurdles, earning a 6th place finish (60.99).
Monica Conley did not disappoint in her races grabbing the 1st place in the 100m (13.09) and second in the 200m (27.73). Teammate Jenae Edwards was also able to earn some points in the 100m with a 6th place finish (14.00).
Adding to the team points in the 400m race was Alia Agee in 5th place (1:12.12) and Sydney Whitt in 7th (1:14.85).
Let’s not forget the 3rd place finishes for both the Lady Sabers relay teams, each team contributing solid points to the team’s overall point standings.
The 4x100 relay (54.50) comprised of Jenae Edwards, Monica Conley, Alia Agee and Sydney Whitt and the 4x200 (2:00.77) with teammates Jenae Edwards, Kiya Norman, Sophia Gnad and Monica Conley.
The Sabers currently have five athletes who have automatically qualified for the NCISAA State meet being held at Gastonia Academy in Gaston, NC this coming weekend.

The team will also have representation in two relays as well, 4x100 and 4x200. Nine Salem Academy Sabers will be continuing their season on to states!
