Soccer vs. Walkertown
The Sabers lost a hard fought battle against an equally matched Walkertown team on Thursday. Salem was down 1-0 at half time but weren’t ready to give up and came out ready to play in the second half. Kelly Nesser helped get the Sabers on the board when she played a free kick into the box to Mandy Peake who was able to bury her shot and even the score. Unfortunately, Walkertown had a quick answer and scored on a free kick from a handball right outside of the box just two minutes later. Walkertown extended their lead to 3-1 halfway through the second half but the Salem team was relentless and fought through the entire half. Abigail Wucherer cut the lead in half with ten minutes left in the game when she scored on a breakaway. The Sabers had opportunities to even the score once again but couldn’t find the back of the net. The team fought hard and showed what they are made of.
