Away Track Meet
The Lady Sabers traveled to High Point Athletic Complex for their fourth meet of the season. It was a cloudy day with warm breezy temperatures. As the ladies prepared for the meet, they were told to take a deep breath, run fast and enjoy the moment.
The day was started by Jessie Gentles jumping to a personal record, or PR, of 10ft, 5.50in in the women’s long jump. The triple threat of Aaliyah Brown, Sophia Gnad, and Gentles all finished respectfully in the event.
Heating up the track, the Sabers 4x100m relay quartet of Jenae Edwards, Monica Conley, Tiarra Georges, and Sydney Whitt took first place, finishing in 55.35 seconds. Sydney Whitt and Emma Machle both ran PR’s in the 400m, finishing in the top 15 in the field. Monica Conley held it down in the 100m, winning her heat as well as the event in total. Sophia Iltis brought her talents to the track and had a huge PR in the 3200m, which closed out the track events.
The throwers had a great day in the ring, leaving the meet with four PRs and a school record. Both Jade Alston (71-06) and Jyana Seaman (62-00) threw the discus to a new personal best. Jade hurdled the shot to another PR of 25-01.75. Miracle Etim-Andy showed out as always throwing the shot to a new PR and school record of 35-10.50 ft.
Personal records were the following:
Shot Put: Miracle Etim-Andy & Jade Alston
Discus: Jade Alston & Jyana Seaman
400: Sydney Whitt & Emma Machle
LJ: Jessie Gentles
3200: Sophia Iltis
4x100m relay: Jenae Edwards, Monica Conley, Tiarra Georges, & Sydney Whitt
All in all, it was a very successful day both on and off the track. The Lady Sabers will take the week off and focus on recovery.
