Recap
Salem track and field started their season off with a BANG on Wednesday! Scoring 133 points, the team earned a second place overall finish out of six teams.
Setting the tone for the meet right off the bat were the lady shot put throwers, Miracle Etim-Andy, Tochi Okoli, Aprille Rolle, and Brier Evans. They dialed in to go first, second, third and fourth place, respectively, in the event.  Miracle and Tochi kept the momentum going, grabbing 1st and 2nd in the discus throw. Aaliyah “Nola” Brown soared to a first-place finish in the long jump with a personal best distance of 13’ 10.5”.
On the track, the purple and gold continued that first place streak with Monica Conley in the 100m and 200m, just hundredths of seconds off last season PR’s, while Jenae Edwards and Kiya Norman captured ten points each for the team in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, respectively.
Slowing it down a bit but not backing off, a shout out to Sophia Iltis in the 3200-meter run, braving those eight laps around the track with the boys and earning the team another first place victory.
The coaches cannot forget the valiant efforts made by Jeanine Ikekhua in her first ever track meet competing in the 100 Hurdles and Makenna Hartwich giving her all in the 800m only to come back and anchor the 4x400m relay team to a third-place finish.
What a great start for the Lady Sabers track and field team!
