Track at American Hebrew Academy
This week, the Sabers hit I-40 and made their way to American Hebrew Academy in Greensboro for their fourth meet of the season. The coaches mixed things up and had some of the ladies in events that they don’t usually compete in.There were a slew of personal records in the 200, from Praise Idika, Jenae Edwards, Parker Lacewell, and Jadyn Loftin. In the 300 intermediate hurdles, Tiarra Georges, Jasmine Robinson, and Kiya Norman all had personal best races. Natalia Lindo stepped up when one of her teammates fell ill and ran an amazing leg on a great 4x800 meter relay. Taylor Marshall earned State qualifier status in the triple jump, an event she only competed in for the first time Tuesday! Lillian Giles and Winna Xia had standout races in the mile run, as well. There was so much heart and determination displayed from this team, and they are showing pure class from week to week. There were amazing parents and friends of the team who came to support and were raving!
On the throws side,Salem had multiple great performances in the shot put and discus throws. It shouldn’t surprise you to hear that senior, Uche Okoh came in 1st place in the girls shot put with a throw of 28ft 11in. Along with Uche’s win, Salem had three girls set personal best records in the shot put:Amira Rady (19ft 8in), Tiarra Georges (20ft 3in), and Jyana Seaman (20ft 9in). Their throws were a foot further than their previous marks. In the discus, Uche Okoh took 2nd place with a throw of 71ft 1in, while rising star Makenna Hartwich took 3rd with a personal best throw of 53ft 3in. That mark was 13ft further than her previous best. But Makenna wasn’t the only discus thrower to set a personal record. Diana Bishop and Lucy Price also set new personal records. Diana throwing 38ft 11in and Lucy P.throwing 49ft 6in.
The Sabers had an amazing day in perfect weather, and they can’t wait to get on the track for the next meet. Be on the lookout for a bus load going to the State meet this year!
