Personal Travel

In preparation for and during Spring Term 2021, Salem students, faculty, and staff should limit unnecessary personal travel to the extent possible for the safety of the campus community.

NOTIFICATION OF INTERNATIONAL AND CRUISE SHIP TRAVEL

By December 1, 2020, Academy students and employees must notify Salem of any international or cruise ship travel scheduled to occur within 14 days prior to (or as part of) their scheduled campus re-entry.  Academy students should notify Salem of any such travel plans by emailing the Director of Student Life.  Employees should notify Salem of any such travel plans by emailing Human Resources.  This notification requirement is an ongoing obligation such that students and employees who schedule personal international or cruise ship travel during the semester must notify Salem prior to their departure.

QUARANTINE AFTER INTERNATIONAL OR CRUISE SHIP TRAVEL

Individuals who travel internationally or via cruise ship within 14 days prior to their scheduled return to campus or at any time during Spring Term 2021 will be required to quarantine for 14 days prior to entering campus.  Once Salem is notified prior to departure, students and employees will receive further instruction regarding quarantine protocols.

SALEM-SPONSORED TRAVEL

To protect campus members from COVID-19 exposure associated with travel, Salem-sponsored travel is suspended until further notice, with the exception of Salem-sanctioned outings that are related to the academic experience and student wellness (e.g., mental health and wellness activities, club activities) as authorized by the Head of School. Any Salem-sanctioned outings will be assessed for necessity and risk taking into account the prevalence of COVID-19 in our region and in the destination location.

Pursuant to the Salem Academy and College Travel Policy, Salem-sponsored travel is defined broadly and includes travel that:

  • is funded in part or in full by Salem;
  • is awarded course credit;
  • is organized by a recognized Salem group such as a class or club;
  • is planned, organized, and/or accompanied by a Salem employee; or
  • is part of a program, conference, or other event for which an individual is authorized to be representing Salem.
