Staying Home When Sick

To protect the safety of the campus community, individuals should stay home and not report to campus when they are sick.

Campus members must stay home and not report to campus if:

  1. You are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (Daily COVID-19 Screening Checklist),
  2. You or a household member test positive for COVID-19,
  3. You or a household member are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test due to symptoms or exposure,
  4. You have been directed by a healthcare provider or health department to quarantine, or
  5. *You have had close contact (defined as within 6 feet for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone that has a suspected or lab confirmed case of COVID-19, including household members.

Students and employees who experience any of these conditions should promptly follow the COVID-19 Reporting process to notify Salem, self-isolate at home (commuter students and employees) or in their campus residences or at a designated on-campus isolation location (residential students), and seek medical support from their primary healthcare provider (employees or students) or Salem Health Services (students). In these situations, students and employees must receive clearance from Salem prior to returning to campus or resuming in-person activities.

*Pursuant to CDC guidelines, close contact exposure is positively impacted by COVID-19 vaccination and may not result in the need to quarantine. Campus members should promptly report this information to Salem as directed for further instructions before reporting to campus or resuming in-person activities. Proof of vaccination status will be required for exclusion from quarantine.
