Campus Cleaning Standards for Facilities and Vehicles
Campus cleanliness and hygiene remain an imperative community responsibility during the pandemic. All students, faculty, and staff must work together to keep our campus healthy and safe.
Physical Plant Support
Physical Plant staff will provide daily cleaning and disinfecting of campus spaces (e.g., bathrooms, common spaces, office buildings) and enhanced disinfection of high touch areas and frequently used spaces (e.g., door handles, stair rails, light switches, desks, tables, chairs, appliances, and bathrooms).
In addition to routine cleaning by Physical Plant, disinfectant wipes and/or spray bottles of cleaning solution will be provided at sanitizer and disinfectant stations throughout campus (e.g., education buildings, administrative offices, department spaces, residence halls, athletic facilities) for campus members’ use.
Campus Members’ Support
Campus members should limit the use of shared equipment to the extent possible and avoid eating in common areas with the exception of campus spaces designated for indoor or outdoor dining. Individuals should disinfect shared equipment before and after use (e.g., copier keypads, telephones, buttons, refrigerator handles). Campus members should also clean and disinfect their personal spaces and high-touch surfaces before and after use (e.g., door handles, desks, light switches, counters, workstations, keyboard, mobile devices).
Physical Plant staff will clean bathrooms and common areas daily and continue frequent disinfection of high-touch areas.
In suites, apartments, or rooms with private baths, students should clean their spaces with disinfectant at least weekly. Students should contact the Physical Plant for guidance or assistance with supplies.
Residence Life will conduct frequent health and safety inspections and require students to keep their personal spaces cleaned and disinfected.
Dining tables and high touch guest areas will be cleaned and sanitized a minimum of three times daily. Food contact areas will be cleaned and sanitized at frequent intervals throughout each day.
Athletic facilities will be cleaned and disinfected a minimum of once daily. In collaboration with Physical Plant staff, Athletics staff will perform thorough cleaning of fitness equipment and workout and training room spaces. Athletes will be expected to disinfect equipment before and immediately after every use with oversight by Athletics Department coaches and staff.
Occupancy of multi-person Salem vehicles (e.g., buses and vans) may be limited. Any Salem face covering and distancing protocols will apply. Campus vehicles will be cleaned and sanitized by Physical Plant before each use. Campus members who are authorized to drive Salem vehicles will be required to use wipes and/or cleaning supplies to clean their high-touch surfaces within the vehicle after every use (e.g., steering wheel, cup holder, radio, door handle) and before returning the vehicle to the Physical Plant.
Receiving mail and packages will continue through proper hygienic practices and deliveries across campus at secure locations. Mail Center vendors will be expected to wear face coverings and maintain physical distancing for safe on-campus operations.
Copy Center use will be managed by observing applicable health and safety guidelines. Disinfecting supplies and hand sanitizer will be provided near copy machines and payment locations, and campus members are expected to wipe down touch pads and other surfaces before and after use. Copy Center will continue copy code budget charges for Academy and College business, or direct payment for student or employee personal copies. Copy Center vendors will be expected to wear face coverings and maintain physical distancing for safe on-campus operations.
