Friday afternoon started off with the field events. Brier Evans held nothing back in long jump setting herself a new personal record (13-10). Over at the discus circle, Miracle Etim-Andy spun to a first place victory, earning her first of two All-State titles with a throw of 107-11.75. Taking that momentum with them into Saturday’s competition, Miracle again captured a state title with her first place toss of 35-10.5 in the shot put to tie her personal and school record. Teammates Tochi Okoli and Brier earned the team some solid points as well from the shot put circle coming in 6th (30-01) and 8th (29-11, PR) place respectively.
After a day of preliminary rounds on Friday, running hard to qualify for finals on Saturday’s competition, Monica Conley clenched two All-State awards with a 2nd place finish in the 100m (13.00) and a 3rd place finish in the 200m (27.46) ending her season with a new personal record.
Both relays ran on Saturday, earning the team two 7th place finishes to add to the team score. The Lady Sabers 4x100m relay ended their season with a new season-best time of 54.08 (Kiya Norman, Monica Conley, Sydney Whitt, Jeanine Ikekhua).
Coach K, Coach Flower, and Coach T are very proud of the efforts of the team to get this far into the postseason competition and impressed with the team’s performances to end the season. They would like to thank the girls for their hard work this season, the parents and family members who offered amazing support and encouragement to the team, and the Academy as well for giving the team the opportunity to do so well this season.
