Salem Academy

From the Head Of School

“A woman with a voice is, by definition, a strong woman.“ - Melinda Gates

I would like to provide you with a recap of Salem Academy “voices” in the last week:

Friday, November 8
The Salem Academy Glee Club members were guest performers at the Salem Sings! Concert which was held in Hanes Auditorium. Dr. Sonja Sepulveda combined our ensemble with the Salem College Chamber Choir, the Winston-Salem Youth Chorus, and the Palmetto Voices in a magnificent performance. This was a great preview of our Academy Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 18 at 7:00 pm.

Sunday and Monday, November 10 and 11

Open House and Shadow Days are successful because of the students. Prospective families had the opportunity to experience the poise and confidence that all Salem Academy students possess. The Academy Admissions team knows how to market the school: Put the students in the spotlight.

Thursday - Sunday, November 14 - 17
Communicating Doors, our fall production, promises to be a mixture of comedy, mystery, and intrigue! Students have been working under the direction of Ashley Pearson, our drama instructor, and the energy that has been shared in previews should result in a full house for every performance!

Friday - Sunday, November 15-17
Model UN, under the direction of Chris Royster with the assistance of Gloria Frost, will be attending its first competition of the year at Appalachian State. While considered a club, Model UN participants are expected to be knowledgeable in current events as well as the challenges of the global community. They always seem to return to school with accolades.

I can go into any classroom, eavesdrop on any conversation, or attend any club meeting and the result would be the same: Salem Academy students are expressing themselves with dignity and empathy, with conviction and compassion. What a gift to this community!

Far may our song ring clear!

World Civilizations Field Trip to WFU Museum of Anthropology

Academy Students

Students in World Civilizations recently traveled just up the road to visit Wake Forest University’s Museum of Anthropology where they studied the exhibit Stoneware on the Silk Roads: Ceramics from the Changsha Kilns. It was an excellent opportunity to see how archaeology contributes to historians’ understanding of the cultural diffusion which occurred along the Silk Roads over many centuries.
