Week of January 6, 2019

From the Head of School

“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” (Rainer Maria Rilke, poet and novelist)

Happy 2019! I hope that your holiday season was spectacular.

You may have noticed that I did not write Happy New Year - for me and for most of us in the profession of education, August is the mark of our new beginnings. Still, there is nothing like turning the page of a calendar and see a fresh, clean slate, ready to be filled with plans, celebrations, and accomplishments.

I was looking through Twitter (no surprise to those of you who read this column regularly) and scrolled upon a Harvard University post on how to keep New Year’s resolutions. Below is a month-by-month plan, but I know my habits (and attention span), so I will probably need to move April and July a bit closer to the top of the list
            January -  Set goal(s)
            February -  Commit to process
            March -  Find motivation
            April -  Shout intentions
            May - Question everything
            June - Reassess goal(s)
            July - Find support
            August -  Get (re)energized
            September -  See results
            October - Get inspired
            November - Ask for help
            December -  Applaud success

My goal is easy - success for Salem Academy and her students. And I expect all of you to hold me accountable!

Far may our song ring clear!
