This summer, I attended a National Geographic Student Expedition in Yellowstone National Park on a full scholarship, as well as the Youth Conservation Photography Workshop by Karine Aigner Photography and Tropical Herping. In Yellowstone, I had the full experience of Bozeman, Montana, as well as the wildlife and natural wonders of our first national park, located in Wyoming. While in Bozeman, I attended the largest rodeo in the United States, filled with cowboys and famous rodeo fans, including John Mayer and Stephanie Quayle!
In Yellowstone, I rode horses, hiked, toured hot springs and learned about the local wildlife, including bison, coyotes, grizzly and black bears and more! Then, I traveled to Ecuador where I focused on the wildlife and culture of three areas: Quito, the capital of Ecuador, the Mindo cloud forest, and the Yasuni National Park in the Amazon jungle. In these incredible places, we photographed and studied with scientists who focused on wildlife in the rainforest, herpetology, and many other aspects of biology. One of my favorite parts of this trip was photographing and interacting with the indigenous people of Yasuni National Park, who graciously invited us into their world. Throughout this trip, I created a photographic story focusing on Biophilia, how humans tend to connect with nature and experience happiness from this connectivity, as I did in Ecuador.
At the end of this trip, I presented my story to an interesting audience, the indigenous people working in the area where we lodged. I will never forget these two incredible trips, the rich biology, and wildlife, as well as the extraordinary people I worked with along the way. These experiences have sparked my passion for biology and photography, my future!
