Salem Academy and College President to Participate in State of Education Discussion
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (SEPTEMBER 9, 2022)—Salem Academy and College President Summer J. McGee, Ph.D. will join other thought leaders as a panelist at the State of Education in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County on Tuesday, September 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Benton Convention Center, Winston Ballroom (301 W. 5th Street Winston-Salem, NC 27101). The event, hosted by Greater Winston-Salem, Inc., will also feature local peer higher education leaders Brian Cole, Chancellor, University of North Carolina School of the Arts; Dr. Charles Petitt, President, Carolina University; Elwood Robinson, Ph.D., Chancellor, Winston-Salem State University; Janet Spriggs, Ph.D., President, Forsyth Tech and Susan Wente, Ph.D., President, Wake Forest University.
Winston-Salem and Forsyth County are home to one of the broadest and most unique higher education ecosystems in the country where six local institutions, both public and private, serve more than 25,000 students each year. Local colleges and universities attract young talent from around the country, while also connecting with students here at home through collaborations with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.

Bringing together the business community and a panel of local higher education leaders, the Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. event will include discussion of the best ways to align the workforce and provide educational opportunities, noting the strong correlations between robust academic programs and a well-equipped workforce. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Tricia McManus will provide opening remarks about local public primary and secondary schools’ integral roles in the community’s education ecosystem prior to the higher education panel.
