Math Students Compete in Regional Contests

Student teams from Salem Academy recently competed in the qualifying rounds of the North Carolina State Mathematics Contest.
At the Winston-Salem State University Mathematics Face-Off, Maria Wang, Lynn E, Eva Zhang, Yenna Bell, Grayson Sloan and Taylor Jones competed as an algebra II team. Sally Cai, Anna Diermann, Katya Zubov, Julia Dorn, Eunice Zhou, Kelly Kim and Nicole Wang competed as a comprehensive team. Students taking pre-calculus or any higher level mathematics course can compete at the comprehensive level.
At the Lenoir-Rhyne University Competition, Salem was represented at the algebra II and geometry levels. Algebra II Team A consisted of Vivian Shuai, Emily Bannigan, Maddie Francis and Emma Grizack. Algebra II Team B consisted of Alice Yang, Emma Wilbur, Amy Liu and Anna Berrier. Team A placed second overall at the algebra II level. Geometry students competing were Elina Ding and Vivan Wang.
At the individual level, Vivian Shuai placed second and Maddie Francis placed fifth overall in algebra II. Elina Ding placed seventh overall in geometry. Shuai, Francis and Ding also advanced to the state finals, which will be held on April 25.
