Rev. Amy Rio

Rev. Dr. Rio is an ordained United Methodist minister and has served in the ministry since 1992, following her Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy from Greensboro College (‘89) and Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School (‘92). She received her Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. Rev. Dr. Rio is a native of Asheville, NC where she spent several years pastoring churches before she became the United Methodist Campus Minister at UNC-Asheville. Following a number of years in Asheville, she served as the Campus Minister at UNC-Greensboro for the United Methodist Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Rev. Dr. Rio became the Chaplain at Salem Academy and College in 2007, where she provides spiritual leadership and support for the community. She founded and directs the Center for Contemplative Practice & Wellbeing, a resource for the Salem community in the areas of spiritual wellbeing and mindfulness. She is particularly interested in Women and Spirituality, Interfaith activity, and being a global citizen. Rev. Dr. Rio has two young adult children. She enjoys reading, writing, tennis, outdoor activities, and traveling.
