Salem Through My Eyes

I love that students can explore so many different areas, and then get to see how the “pieces” of these different things fit together. I love the community at Salem Academy and the close relationships I get to build with my students. Classes are small enough that I truly get to know each of my students and help each of them learn as much as possible because we have the time to provide the support they might need. The Honor Code that binds us together enables us to create a learning environment that is not only a place to learn information and skills, but also a place of relationship-building, fun, and camaraderie.

Fun Facts

I have loved “all the things” my whole life. I’ve always been interested in math, science, the humanities, and the arts so working at a school with a focus on integrating all these disciplines is great. I never wanted to be in a box of “just” a “math person” or “arts person” – I wanted to do it all! I am a big believer in the power of a liberal arts education, even in today’s increasingly specialized world. I think learning and seeing the connections between apparently disparate topics brings a very important perspective. From my own life, music and math have always gone hand in hand, which sometimes people find puzzling. But I’ve found that “experts” in either field immediately say “Oh, that makes sense!” because really these things are all intertwined.
