It is with great excitement that Salem Academy shares the news that Lauren Rogers, Dean of Students, has been honored as one of the Chamber of Commerce’s Winston Under 40 Leadership Award honorees for 2018. The Chamber’s Winston Under 40 program, one of the community’s leading organizations for young professionals, honors outstanding individuals who exemplify qualities of strong leadership and community service. Salem Academy will be closed Friday. Sisters Merit Scholarship

The Sisters Merit Scholarship at Salem Academy is a full merit scholarship for boarding students. In addition to full tuition and room and board, a Sisters scholar receives honors including travel and internship opportunities. 

A Salem Academy Sisters Merit Scholar is a student who will enrich Salem with her presence, inspire her fellow students, and extend the reputation of Salem beyond her years as a student. Her academic excellence will be a commitment to a lifetime of learning and her leadership will recognize our global world. She will discover her passion and set off on her own journey while, at the same time, she will be committed to roles outside herself that inspire others; roles that build community and make the world a better place in which to live.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR NOMINATION:

The student must:

  • be a US Citizen
  • be applying for ninth or tenth grade
  • have a minimum grade point average of 3.5
  • be in the top 15% of scores on the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)
  • be a boarding applicant (outside a twenty-five mile radius)
  • have demonstrated school and community leadership
  • foster trust, responsibility, and a sense of the value of each member of her community

 

REQUIREMENTS TO RETAIN THE SCHOLARSHIP:

The student must:

  • have a demonstrated commitment to the Honor Code
  • be on the Honor Roll
  • have a demonstrated involvement in the school community (through athletics, fine arts, clubs, and/or student activities)
  • complete fifteen hours of community service each semester
  • be a mentor to future scholars and be an ambassador for Salem Academy

 

ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIP HONORS INCLUDE:

  • preference for Honor Internships
  • ability to travel on one January Term International Study Trip during her junior or senior year
  • attendance at a leadership conference during her freshmen or sophomore year and her junior or senior year

2019 SCHOLARSHIP TIMELINE:

December 10, 2018: SSAT Test Scores due (The SSAT is offered once a month beginning in October. Please visit ssat.org

December 17, 2018: Nominations due (as the deadline has passed, we are no longer accepting submissions) and required campus visit (please note that we are unable to accommodate visitors after December 8th, so please schedule your visit prior to that date)

January 02, 2019: Completed admissions application due (please view our application checklist for more information)

January 02, 2019: Nominee Profile Form due 

Mid-January 2019: Finalists will be notified

February 19–20, 2019: Finalists will visit campus for scholarship interviews and activities
