Due to winter weather, Salem Academy will open at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2018. See our Winter Storm Update page for details.
An internship must be educational in nature and should require the student to spend a minimum of six hours a day for at least fifteen days on task. Most students choose to live at home during Jan Term, working during the day in an office, place of business, lab, etc., under the supervision of a field adviser.
A faculty committee reviews each internship proposal and either approves or disapproves. No project of a purely recreational nature will be accepted, nor will a student be allowed to repeat a project. Also, the committee discourages students from undertaking a project that would require them to have a parent as a field adviser. Students completing an internship should receive no financial remuneration for work done in connection with their January Term program.
Boarding students who remain on campus during January Term will only have access to transportation during regular working hours and within a reasonable distance from the Academy. Such students should be sure to arrange an internship which satisfies these expectations.
