Purple & Gold
Salem Academy is rich in tradition with school spirit. At the beginning of the school year, students are placed on the purple or gold team. Members take part in numerous activities throughout the academic year, combining friendly competition with camaraderie.
The Saber
The official mascot of the Academy is the saber-toothed tiger.
Traditional Athletics Events
Athletic Picnic
At the beginning of each school year, the athletic council hosts its annual athletic picnic. All students who attend Salem Academy are required to attend this well-known tradition. This is the time in which each new student finds out whether they are on the purple or gold team. They are then initiated onto their respective team and given a Salem Pride t-shirt. The picnic features games among the classes and is followed by dinner.
Salem Pride Days
Salem Pride Days occur throughout the year on days that the teams play at home. Students and faculty wear their Salem Pride t-shirts during the day and come support each of the teams in the afternoon. Dinner is provided afterwards.
Turkey Trot
The Turkey Trot is a 1-mile walk/run held the Monday before Thanksgiving. Faculty (past and present), staff, friends and family are all invited to participate in this fun event. The winner from each class, as well as the winner among the faculty, is presented with an award. This event takes place on Blixt Field.
Faculty / Student Basketball Game & Bonfire
At the end of the winter season, the faculty take on the students in a friendly game of full-court basketball. During half-time of the game, the winter awards are presented by each coach. After the game, everyone gathers on the athletic field around a large bonfire. Everyone enjoys the s'mores, hot dogs and hot chocolate.
