Equestrian
The Hunt Seat Equestrian Program at Salem Academy includes both group and individual instruction in forward riding. Classes are conducted at Deerwood Farm - a 25 acre farm just 10 minutes from Salem's campus. The farm boasts considerable turnout with run-in sheds. It is home to more than 20 horses housed in 12x12 box stalls. Riding facilities include an enclosed outdoor arena with all weather footing, extensive fields of uneven terrain and access to trails.
Students are required to take 1 lesson per week in the 6 quarter and participate in one related competition to receive P.E. credit.
Horses are available for lessons. This program is designed for the beginner as well as the experienced rider. Transportation to the farm is provided by the Academy.

Dance
Dance is the vehicle for better learning, creativity and
problem solving. Through the introductions of ballet, jazz and modern dance,
Academy students are exposed to self-discovery and body awareness. Each semester
will focus on learning these three dance forms along with their historical
context.
In addition to the backbone of ballet, jazz and modern
dance, dances of different cultures will be introduced in a series of ethnic
discovery classes throughout the year. Approximately three classes will focus
on experiencing dances around the world – African, Indian and Asian. Master
teachers will be brought in to expose Academy students to the rich diversity
dance and our culture have to offer. Dance meets every Tuesday and Thursday
from 4:00-5:30PM in the dance studio.
