The Key is Participation

As we all know, single sex schools face a much tougher battle than any of our co-ed competitors. Research shows that girls thrive in an all-girls' environment. Classrooms are not dominated by boys, as they often are in coed schools, and by holding all the student leadership positions, girls learn the important lessons and the considerable rewards of leading. Salem is an institution which celebrates its diversity and affirms each student's uniqueness. As advocates for women in leadership roles, Salem Academy recognizes it’s place in a global society and persists in a commitment to a lifetime of learning while encouraging each student to take risks, show integrity, and discover her passion as she sets out on her own journey.

At Salem Academy, for more than two centuries, they have encouraged, challenged, and supported young women as they grow to fulfill their immense potential. The Parents Excellence Fund plays a crucial role in ensuring the Academy’s strength and future. Fund’s raised by both current and former Academy parents combined with other gifts help support the Academy with teacher salaries, financial aid, student activities, maintenance of the historic campus, and, of course, helps to limit tuition increases. In order to continue what the Moravians began 241 years ago we need your support. Parent giving in ANY amount, from a quarter to a quarter of a million makes a difference. Parent giving participation is also a factor as Salem applies for grants from foundations and institutions and low levels can affect these applications adversely.

Thank you so much to those of you that gave last year. For the 2012 school year, giving from current parents totaled $63,195 with 33% participation. This was a 8% increase in participation from 2011. Our goal for this year will be to increase the total giving to $75,000 with 100% participation. In the upcoming email newsletters we will chart our progress!
