The academic program at Salem is designed to prepare our students for a lifetime of learning in a global society.
We offer each student a challenging college-preparatory education along with the freedom and support to discover her passion.The program of study is also designed to meet the entrance
requirements of the most selective colleges and universities.
With a
student/faculty ratio of 7:1, Salem affords a learning environment that
is, at once, both challenging and intimate. We know each student well
and understand the responsibility we have to enable her to succeed in
her studies.
Requirements
College-preparatory
courses are standard for all students, with 20 academic credits
required for graduation. Most students carry five academic subjects.
Specific requirements include four credits in English, two in the same
foreign language, four credits in high school mathematics (Algebra I,
Geometry, and Algebra II required), three in history (US history
required), and three in science (Biology and Chemistry required). In
addition, the Academy requires credits for graduation in art, music,
health, physical education, and religion.
Advanced Placement
Salem
students have a strong history of academic achievement on College Board
Advanced Placement examinations. Students of demonstrated and
consistent ability are encouraged to take courses that prepare them for
the AP exams.
The following advanced placement
courses are offered to those students who qualify: Calculus AB,Calculus
BC, Statistics, US History, World History, French Language, Spanish
Language, Latin Literature: Virgil, English Literature and Composition,
Biology, Chemistry, and (certain years) Physics.
