Day students choose Salem Academy because it offers a unique opportunity to be part of a school community that is open around the clock, with classmates from around the world.
School for us isn’t just an 8:00 am–3:30 pm affair; day students are on campus into the evenings and on the weekends. The diversity that Salem’s day and boarding students bring to the school community enriches the entire community through shared experiences.
Staying on Campus
Part of a late night study group? Need to stay for play rehearsal? Parent has an early morning meeting? Not a problem. Day students can be dropped off at school as early as 6:30 in the morning (before boarders are even awake!) and can be on campus until 10:00 at night. You’re welcome to partake in the activities of a boarding student—have breakfast, stay for dinner, and participate in evening activities. If parents are out of town or if you want to spend the weekend, we’d love to have you! Our philosophy is the more, the merrier! Salem has beds available for day students to stay overnight as needed.
Hosting a Friend
As experts on Winston-Salem and the surrounding community, our day students play a huge role in welcoming our boarding students to their home away from home. School breaks are a fantastic opportunity to host a friend from Germany, Korea, Dominica, or from another state. Sharing your family traditions and the comforts of home will provide lasting memories for you both. You’ll have the opportunity to visit boarders at home, too! It’s great to have friends to visit in far-away locations during the summer (or to have help planning a Jan Term internship in the Bahamas).
